Who We Are
In 2016, Carl's Candies opened its doors on Main Street in the historic maritime village of Northport. Sisters, Angela Nisi-MacNeill and Gina Nisi, were inspired to open the candy shop in honor of their beloved Grandpa and former long-time Northport Resident Carl Foglia.
Camillo (Carl) Foglia was born in East New York, Brooklyn on June 15, 1927. He was one of six children who worked in the family Butcher shop. After High School, Carl joined the Merchant Marines and served his country during WWII. at the end of the war, Carl returned to Brooklyn and started his own taxi service. one of his first fairs was his would be furture wife victoria!
Carl loved Northport and moved to town in the 1960s where he served in the community with the Eaton's Neck Fire Department as Captain of the volunteer Fire fighters. Carl was also a local businessman and owned the Northport Meat Market which was located on Main Street just a few doors down where Carl's Candies stands today. After he sold the family business, Carl went back to his driving roots and captained his own limousine service. He was a favorite among locals for his off beat, and sometimes NSFW humor! Carl drove Northporters around town until he was in his late 80's. To many in town, Carl was known as "Carl the butcher, "Carl the limo driver, and "Carl the "unofficial Mayor of Northport". Carl passed in 2014. But lives on in the spirit of Carl's Candies...(and sometimes on a cool summer night, when the town is quiet you just might catch Carl out for a drive, cigar in hand, keeping watch of his beloved little harborside village)!
